Magnitsky Act Initiative and Spectrum HR Asking DHS to Remove from US a Russian MP for Supporting Terrorists

August 9, 2014 For the immediate press release. NGO Magnitsky Act Initiative and Spectrum Human Rights have been alerted to a presence of a Russian Member of the Federal Council, Evgeny Tarlo, in New York city. Mr. Tarlo’s public record indicates his full support to the illegal annexation of Crimea and voting for the state funding for the known self-proclaimed terrorist organizations named “Donetsk National Republic” and “Lugansk National Republic” responsible for the numerous deaths of the Ukrainian population and shooting down a passenger airliner from Malaysia. Authorizing funding and providing parliamentary support for known terrorists makes Mr. Tarlo involved with those organizations thus most likely inadmissible to the US and subject to removal and deportation. Further, we would like to understand how Mr. Tarlo answered relevant questions about his affiliation with the known terrorist groups on his DS-160 visa application and questionnaire at the port of entry, how thoroughly he was examined by the immigration officer and etc. We believe that Mr. Tarlo presents a clear threat to the US national security and we respectfully ask that your office review this case with the attention it deserves while taking appropriate corrective actions. NGO Magnitsky Act Initiative and Spectrum Human Rights contacted US Department of Homeland Security, US Department of State, US Citizenship and Immigration Service, US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, US Senator Chuck Schumer and New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo for further comments.
